Welcome to the Pastel Guild of Europe community website

We are group of pastel artists around Europe who share the same vision of connection and friendships between artists across Europe, with the common goal to inform, enjoy and delight in the beautiful artist's medium of soft pastels, and to be a support and resource for artists and groups of artists.

If you share same goals, you are invited to join our growing community.

  • People's Vote

    PDF Print E-mail

The jurying of the June/July Dusty is ongoing. I want to remind you all that the system allows for each member to vote for their favourite painting (paintings). Go to "Submit your painting to Competition", and by each painting there is a button for rating and voting. Will the Popular Choice, the People's Vote be the same as the Jury's?

I (Charlie) am on vacation, so direct all questions to the other members of the board, please.

Have fun, and enjoy your summers,

    Charlie

Kate Thayer has always been an artist. From intricately designed clothing knitted from exotic yarns from around the world, to culinary artistry, to garden design, to watercolors, and finally to her beloved pastels. They have all had the same aim: to create sensory and spiritual experiences that are personal, provocative, and life-enriching.

A Wisconsinite, she has degrees from Marquette University and Wisconsin University, with considerable post-graduate education. Since then, her "classroom" has been the major galleries and museums around the globe, and the music, theater, and artistic expressions found only in other cultures. She is an accomplished and widely-recognized pastelist. She has presented her work in regional and national exhibitions, and has received both popular and critical awards for her work. She is affiliated with major pastel societies. She is a learner, forever pushing the boundaries of her craft and her art. Her work has been in one person and group shows in many of the galleries in the Southeast. A long-time student of master painters, she is recognized for her own exquisite voice in her paintings.

In a recent interview, she remarked, "Schooling and 'talent' have little to do with serious art. It takes discipline and dedication. I have chosen to have those in abundance. "

I started drawing when very young, producing my first recognisable picture of a mouse at the tender age of 18 months.  Since then, drawing has always been a hobby, and I count myself as very fortunate to be able to pick up a pencil and within the space of a few minutes, bring together a sketch; it has always been a natural talent and something I have been able to do without any training.

Only recently I decided to make drawing into a little more than just a hobby, and set up TarimoorArt, along with the help and encouragement of others.  It is something I have always wanted to do, and seeing my work as cards and prints, and having people ask me to portray their pet or working animal is incredibly gratifying.

My main passion for drawing has always been animals and of course horses were my favourite subject as a young girl.  I love to capture the movement and character of a particular animal, and even a posed portrait conveys a sense of that creature, particularly in the eyes.  I also love walking my two Labradors, Indie and Tau, out in the countryside, with a camera to hand to photograph subjects to perhaps portray at a later date.

I live with my husband, our  J.R.T. Oskar and Bengal cat Maisie, in a small town in Somerset, close to many areas of interest including Bath, Bristol, the Somerset Levels, Glastonbury, Wells, Cheddar caves and Gorge, and Wookey Hole. I have always loved drawing, my main inspiration and influence being my late father, whom I watched draw and paint portraits, animals and occasionally landscapes in graphite and oils, whilst growing up. He encouraged me in my own endeavors and made sure I had plenty of inspiration with books of Fairy Tales, Fables, Folklore and Myth, I am still very influenced by the wonderful illustrations of Rackham, Dulac, Sulamith Wolfing, Dore and the like. Today my favorite art still leans towards illustration and fantasy, but I also have a passion for animals and love to draw and paint anything with fur or feathers. I have a Diploma (merit) in Pet Portraits (on-line london Art College) a Diploma (Distinction)in Art and Design Foundation studies (Weston Super Mare, Uni Campus College) and am currently studying full time for a foundation Degree in Applied Art and Design (W-S-M Uni campus in conjunction with Bath Spa).
