Win a set of 20 PanPastels(tm) and tools, a prize worth 100 Euro!

Members, join in the fun and whip up some dust, painting for our monthly challenge Get Dusty! Not a member yet? It is very easy to join.

Our generous sponsor, the Colorfin company, will send the winner a generous and fantastic prize the Colour Painting Set with 20 PanPastels and tools, worth 100 Euro!

Learn more about this new supersoft pastels on the PanPastel(TM) site. Read the review on the set and products in the September 2009 issue of our monthly newsletter, the Pastel Scribbler.

Also have a look at the galleries of the previous challenges.

Rules:

Open to all members of the Pastel Guild who are 18 years old or more.

Themes are decided on by the Get Dusty Team. (Suggestions for themes very welcome.)

You may submit a maximum of two (2) paintings. (For the time being. This may change, so check this point.)

All submitted artwork must be by your own hand only, no work completed under instruction allowed. No copies of other artwork, and if you use a reference, you must have the right to use it. (You do not want a copyright suit. Submitting to Get Dusty is publishing.)

The submitted paintings shall have a connection to the theme of the month. (A painting of a cat will not do if the theme is horses. The Horsehead Nebula? Possibly. The Dusty Team makes the decisions, and won't debate.)

There shall be one winner, who shall have the honour of having their painting displayed on the starter page of the PGE site, and an interview published in the Pastel Scribbler newsletter. (Mother will be so proud! And it looks good on your CV.)

From September 2009 to and including September 2010, each winner will get a set of PanPastels(TM) from our sponsor. (One set with all you need included.)

Up to 5 Honorary Mentions (by position, not number), who will get their paintings displayed in the Get Dusty Gallery. (Looks good on the CV too!)

Pastel paintings only. Mixed Media paintings must have 80% pastel. (A no-brainer, really.)

All paintings must be submitted online no later than the stated date of deadline of the month. (It is actually allowed to be in good time...)

Maximum size of picture is 800x800 pixels, 72 ppi resolution, max 100 kb. (Larger images will not, I repeat, not give you a better chance to win.)

If you have any questions concerning your interpretation of the theme, do ask the Get Dusty Team before committing to paper. (Better safe than sorry.)

All paintings will be published in the Get Dusty section of the website. (Yours will look especially good.)

Winner is elected by a jury appointed by the Board. The jury's decision is not debatable. (No use whining and complaining, in other words. Life really is unfair.)

Checklist For Dusty entries:

  • Artistic merit/originality - is my choice of subject matter and/or approach (within the given theme) original?
  • Drawing - does my artwork show sound drawing skills?
  • Pastel Technique - does the pastel technique used suit the subject chosen?
  • Composition - is it a good composition?
  • Tone/Value - are the values good?
  • Colour - is the use of colour effective for the subject chosen?
  • Edges - have I used a good variety of edges, and where appropriate?
  • Photo/scanner quality: Is the image straight, and without camera distortion? Have I taken care to crop off frame and mat, or the borders of the paper? Is the work photographed/scanned without glass, and have no distracting reflexes? Have I adjusted the values of the photo/scan so that it isn't too dark or too bright, or too mid-toned?

Restrictions
Professional artists are allowed to participate. For a member of the jury, and/or a professional, or a previous winner to be considered for the prize, the vote must be unanimous from all (the rest) of the jury.

And, you will of course only send in clean artwork. Traditional figures in the nude are considered clean. The PGE board decides what is OK or not, and there exists no court of appeal. So called adult material, racism, and offending of religions and nations, are not acceptable paintings. (Not that any of you would send in things like that, but we have to state it clearly.)

Enter online, the link is found under User Menu to the left.

The entry deadlines are announced at the Dusty schedule page.
