September Apprentice Challenge

PDF Print E-mail

This Month's challenge is The Human Figure

that is a portrait of the whole body, with or without clothes.

While the response to last Month's challenge was, er, sparse (well done Karin for submitting a very good entry) we expect there will be more entries this month!

Why not take up the challenge? You have nothing to lose!

Entries must be submitted on line by 26 September....plenty of time!

Category: Still-life

Challenge: Paint objects (plural) of coloured glass

Deadline: September 26 (last day to enter, and all entries are to be online). No more entries accepted on September 27 (there will be a new Dusty for October).

Guidelines: More than one object, and they shall be of coloured glass. Obviously, objects exist in a context, so a table or some other support can be wood, or table cloth, or whatever. If there are other objects in the still-life, they must play a minor role, and they must be considerably fewer than the glass-objects.

Say for example that you have 4 coloured glass vases, then there might be a flower somewhere. Or one other vase that is made of clay, for contrast if you like that.

Frosted glass is also glass, if it is coloured.

Glass objects may have parts that are clear. If I use a vase as an example again, the 'body' of the vase may be coloured, while the foot or base is clear -- count that as coloured glass.

Transparent coloured glass, frosted coloured glass, and painted coloured glass are great, (no church window, though), and then there is opaque coloured glass.

Objects can be large, like a huge vase, or small, like glass 'balls' called 'marbles'.

(We are saving transparent glass for another Dusty.)

If there are any questions, please ask them in the Forum section, in a thread for September Dusty.

Welcome to new member Michelle Wrighton

I am a self taught artist and have been drawing since I could hold a pencil. I have always been compelled to draw the animals that I love and I guess it was a natural progression to offer my services as an animal artist to those wishing to commission a unique work of art to commemorate their cherished pets. Animals are so important in our lives, and I find it incredibly rewarding to be able to capture their personality and character to create a fitting tribute that will be enjoyed for a lifetime.

I work from my home studio, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Darling Ranges in Western Australia and a multitude of pets and wild animals – I simply couldn’t imagine life without them all!

The artwork that I create is realistic while retaining a definite hand drawn or painted appearance. I do not aim for photo-realism in my work, but what I personally refer to as ‘artistic realism’ – my artistic interpretation of the subject rather than just a duplicate copy of a photograph – which as an avid photographer, I just don’t see the point of doing.
